Description

A beautiful hand-pulled lithograph, created on a vintage press the same process used by Toulouse-Lautrec  during his lifetime, of the original oil painting from the collection of Oskar Reinhart Collection, Am Römerholz̕ , Winterthur, Switzerland.  The performer, known as, Cha-U-Kao was one of his favorite subjects to paint in the mid 1890’s.  Cha-U-Kao, who was a member of the Cirque Nouveau was, like Toulouse-Lautrec, a frequent visitor of the Moulin Rouge.  He described her as “the clown with tits” and it was well-known to Toulouse-Lautrec of her importance in the Lesbian community in Montmarte.  His painting captured her wearing a signature yellow ruffle, mingling with the nightclub’s clientele.  Once an athletically lithe and agile gymnast, Toulouse-Lautrec painted her as the confident middle aged, “clownesse.” Includes certificate of authenticity.
